Mercosul estuda criar Pix regional para fortalecer moedas locais e soberania financeira

Uma proposta inovadora para impulsionar a integração da América Latina e reduzir a dependência do dólar avança nos debates do Mercosul. Um estudo publicado pelo Ipea (Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada), elaborado por auditores do Banco Central, propõe a criação de um sistema de pagamentos instantâneos regional inspirado no sucesso do Pix brasileiro. A medida visa baratear custos e ampliar a soberania econômica do bloco.

Atualmente, as transações utilizam o Sistema de Pagamentos em Moeda Local (SML), que ainda é pouco explorado: responde por apenas 5% das operações entre Brasil e Argentina e depende da rede Swift. A introdução de uma tecnologia baseada no Pix — reconhecido internacionalmente como uma política pública de sucesso que promoveu inclusão financeira — permitiria transações imediatas diretamente em reais ou pesos, reduzindo custos cambiais para os trabalhadores e empresas.

Além do ganho econômico, a iniciativa tem caráter estratégico ao diminuir a vulnerabilidade regional a choques externos. O governo brasileiro tem defendido o Pix como um símbolo de soberania nacional, rejeitando sua inclusão em concessões comerciais. Para consolidar o projeto, os países do bloco agora debaterão a harmonização regulatória, pavimentando o caminho para uma América do Sul mais autônoma e integrada.
